GIZ, UNEP, WWF and OECD have partnered to establish the Global Action Partnership for Extended Producer Responsibility, the “GAP for EPR”, hosted by the PREVENT Waste Alliance. The partnership also receives circular economy support from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. The EPR Helpdesk provides tailored technical support for EPR design and implementation to governments, producer responsibility organisations (PROs) and other relevant stakeholders. Consisting of members of the PREVENT Waste Alliance, the GAP for EPR Expert Pool supports requesting parties with their country-specific and documented expertise on EPR. The work of the experts is guided and coordinated by the GAP for EPR. One of the critical activities of the GAP for EPR is to establish an EPR helpdesk to provide tailored technical support for EPR design and implementation. On request, EPR experts will help to governments, producer responsibility organizations (PROs) and other stakeholders to address specific challenges. The work of the experts will be guided and coordinated by the GAP for EPR. After evaluation, the GAP for EPR has selected proposals from two potential PROs – Malaysian Recycling Alliance (MAREA) and CEMPRE Argentina – to pilot this approach. The EPR helpdesk pilot project consultancy is sponsored by the Norwegian Retailers’ Environment Fund, through its collaboration with UNEP on EPR to reduce plastic pollution.
