Recycling home appliances in Japan

Abstract/summary

In Japan 24 million air conditioners, television sets, washing machines and refrigerators are sold each year. During the same period 14 million used home appliances are discarded. The Home Appliances Recycling Pilot Plant in Ibaraki-ken handles this kind of large waste mainly through the application cryogenic technology.
