In this case study, we look at the Product Stewardship for Oil Scheme, the sole example of mandated product stewardship in Australia. In add ition to providing an overview of the regulatory framework underpinning the Scheme, we also assess its benefits and effectiveness. Here, we emphasise the success of product stewardship in driving the creation of a new re-refining industry in Australia, a significant stewardship outcome.
