Plastic pollution in the coastal environment: current challenges and future solutions

Abstract/summary

In this chapter, we explore the issue of plastic pollution in coastal and marine environments. We discuss the sources and pathways for movement of plastics, challenges associated with addressing this issue of emerging global concern, and current initiatives to reduce the current load and future input of plastic pollution to marine and coastal environments. In particular, we examine the potential for economic, social, and behavioral change to provide lasting and systemic solutions to plastic pollution.
