Extended producer responsibility: new legal structures for improved ecological self-organization in Europe?

Abstract/summary

This article seeks to discuss some of the structural elements of the EPR concept in light of recently adopted and proposed EC environmental legislation. The contribution will focus on three core elements of the EPR concept: (a) incentives for technological innovation; (b) integration of costs in a market economy; and (c) increased responsibility for economic actors. Furthermore, some practical experiences with the application of EPR in selected European countries will be discussed.
